We were honored to welcome our guest speaker, Retired Navy Captain Bill DeGolian, who gave a powerful and engaging speech that paid tribute to those from Wilkes County who did not make it home from World War I, World War II, or the Vietnam War. His remarks included meaningful historical quotes and even a lighthearted pop quiz that brought everyone together in a fun group effort.
We would like to give a special thank-you to 5th and 6th grade students from Washington-Wilkes Middle School and Washington-Wilkes Elementary School for their heartfelt letters and artwork, which were proudly displayed in the center of each table and were gifted to the veterans in attendance. Your creativity and words of gratitude truly made the evening more meaningful.
We also extend our appreciation to the Washington Wilkes FFA for their help with setup and throughout the event, and to Ruffin Flag Company for providing the thoughtful appreciation gifts.
It was a wonderful evening of community, remembrance, and gratitude for those who have given so much in service to our nation.
Happening right now at VFW Post 5899 Please come out for a good new and some fun. Pulled pork sammiches, chicken, ribs, hotdogs, chips, drinks and games.
